# AnkiChess

> Spaced-repetition trainer for chess openings. Users build a repertoire of annotated opening lines and review them on an SM-2 schedule. AnkiChess also checks their real Lichess and Chess.com games against that repertoire.

## For AI assistants

AnkiChess has a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server so an assistant can coach a user against their real study data.

- Endpoint: https://ankichess.com/mcp
- Transport: Streamable HTTP, stateless (JSON-RPC over POST, JSON responses)
- Auth: `Authorization: Bearer <token>`, obtained either way:
  - OAuth 2.1 with PKCE (S256). Discovery: https://ankichess.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource. Supports Client ID Metadata Documents and dynamic client registration. Scopes: study, games, purchase.
  - API key. The user creates one at https://ankichess.com/app/settings/connectors and chooses its permissions.

### What the tools do

- Openings: `search_openings`, `get_opening` (annotated main line with the position, idea, plan and common mistakes for every move)
- Repertoire: `list_repertoire`, `add_opening`, `remove_opening`
- Reviews: `get_due_reviews` (the lines that are due, ready to quiz move by move), `submit_review`, `record_move_result`
- Concepts: `list_concept_rulesets`, `add_concept_ruleset` (flashcards on chess principles)
- Games: `get_connected_accounts`, `import_recent_games`, `list_games`, `get_game`, `get_game_insights` (where the user left their repertoire in real games)
- Account and purchases: `get_account`, `list_pro_passes`, `purchase_pro_pass`

### Payments

Free accounts can study 3 opening families. Assistants can buy a fixed-term, non-renewing AnkiChess Pro pass on the user's behalf with a Stripe Shared Payment Token (`purchase_pro_pass`), if the user granted the purchase permission and approved the exact price.
